SUPPORTIVE SERVICES FOR VETERAN FAMILIES

Services available for residents of WV

Monday – Friday: 8AM – 4PM

The SSVF Program is designed to improve the housing stability of very low-income Veteran families, by assisting families transitioning from homelessness to permanent housing and preventing at-risk families from becoming
homeless.

SERVICES

CHANGE Inc. will provide eligible families with outreach, case management, and assistance obtaining VA and other benefits.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Must be a veteran or a member of a family in which the head of
    household, or the spouse of the head of household is a Veteran.
    Very low income: household income can not exceed 50% of the area
    median income.
  • Occupying permanent housing in one of three categories:
    1) Residing in permanent housing, 2) homeless and scheduled to
    become a resident of permanent housing within 90 days, or 3) has exited
    permanent housing within the previous 90 days to seek other housing
    that is responsive to the very-low income Veteran family’s needs and
    preferences.
  • Must be a resident of Hancock, Brooke, Ohio, Marshall, Wetzel, Tyler,
    Doddridge, Ritchie, or Pleasant Counties.

YOUTH NUTRITION

Services available for residents of Brooke and Hancock counties and students of Weirton Elementary

SUMMER FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM

Services available for residents of Brooke and Hancock counties

Services available for residents of Brooke and Hancock counties. Provides nutritious meals to children under the age of 18 during the summer months of the year. Numerous sites are located throughout Hancock and Brooke Counties.

To Receive Service
Children will receive an Intake/Emergency Form the first day they attend, which must be completed on site. Call CHANGE, Inc. for dates and times.

FEED FOR SUCCESS BACKPACK PROGRAM

Services available to students of Weirton Elementary

The Feed for Success Backpack Program provides students at Weirton Elementary with food for the weekends when other resources may not be available to them. With parental consent, the program provides bags filled with food that is child-friendly, shelf stable, and easily consumed.

VOLUNTEER INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE

Services available for residents of Brooke, Hancock, Ohio and Marshall counties

SERVICES
VITA helps low-to-moderate income individuals and families file their tax return and determine eligibility for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit. ElTC is a refundable tax credit, which means you can get money back even if you owe no federal income tax or had no tax withheld, and if you owe tax, it can off set the amount you must pay. The Child Tax Credit is a federal tax credit available to families that have earned above a set amount and can claim at least one dependent child under 17 years of age. Call for local site locations, dates and times.

Please bring these documents to the appointment:

  • Photo proof of identification.
  • Social Security cards for themselves, their spouse and dependents.
  • Wage and earning statement(s) forms W-2, W2G, and 1099-R.
  • Interest and dividend statements from banks (Form 1099).
  • Copies of last year’s federal and state returns, if available.
  • Bank routing and account numbers for direct deposit for refunds.

All across the state, West Virginia Saves is helping West Virginians to build wealth through saving and the reduction of debt. West Virginia Saves provides the tools and tips to help West Virginia Savers reach their personal financial goals.

      THE DOLLAR ENERGY FUND

The Dollar Energy Fund works to meet the mission of improving the quality of life for households experiencing hardships by providing utility assistance and other services that lead to self-sufficiency.

SERVICES
The Dollar Energy Fund provides a grant directly to the utility company account for families experiencing hardships and who are unable to pay their utility bills.

ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must make sincere effort of payment to their utility account. The date of payment must be within three months of the date applying.

To Receive Service
Call to make an appointment at one of our CHANGE, Inc. offices. Bring a copy of the termination notice, most current bill, proof of payment in the last 3 months from date of application, proof of all household income for past 30 days, copy of photo ID, and social security cards for all household members.

HOPWA HOUSING OPPORTUNITIES FOR PERSONS WITH AIDS

Services available for residents of Hancock, Brooke, Ohio, Marshall, Wetzel, Tyler, Pleasant, Wood, Wirt, Ritchie, Calhoun and Gilmer counties

CHANGE, Inc. provides long and short-term rental assistance for eligible low-income households. In addition to rental assistance, program benefits may also include payments for security deposits, utility deposits, and short-term mortgage assistance.

You may qualify for assistance if you are experiencing a housing crisis or become homeless while living in the one of the service counties.
