The Comfort House provides support and advocacy to children who are alleged victims of abuse and neglect in Brooke and Hancock Counties.

SERVICES
Forensic Interviews – The Comfort House provides structured conversations with a child to elicit detailed information about a possible event(s) that the child may have experienced or witnessed. Our clean and comfortable, kid-friendly environment appeals to children of all ages. It is our goal to make the process as simplified and convenient as possible to accommodate work, school, and medical schedules. An interviewer is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year to police, prosecution, and Child Protection Services.

Community Education – Comfort House provides community prevention programs, specialized training, and small group presentations to inform the public about our mission, purpose, and services offered.

Advocacy Services – Our advocacy services include support for victims and their families, referrals for additional services, court advocacy and preparation, multi-disciplinary investigative team (DIT), and advocacy to hold offenders accountable for crimes.

MONITORED VISITATION & EXCHANGE PROGRAM

Services available for residents of Brooke & Hancock counties

Monday – Friday: 8AM – 4PM

It is the mission of the Monitored Visitation and Exchange Program to assist families to move from a negative approach to a positive, safe environment to build healthy relationships within the family unit. Staff members remain neutral while providing a pro-family atmosphere and ensure that the participants adhere to the terms of their court order while participating in services.

SERVICES
The Monitored Visitation and Exchange Program is available to help bring families together by providing court ordered monitored parenting (visitation) or exchange services to families in a safe, neutral, child-friendly atmosphere that promotes positive interaction and the safe exchange of children.

Monitored visits are observed by two staff members or one staff member and a security officer between the non-custodial parent and his or her children. Thus service is open to any parent with a court order for monitored parenting or visitation. The visits are monitored in the Children’s Room at the Domestic Violence Awareness Center, which contains fun activities, including toys, books, and air hockey, a changing table and high chair. The visiting parent is responsible for the care and actions of their children and is never left alone with the child.

Court ordered visitation or exchange in Brooke or Hancock County.

LIGHTHOUSE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SHELTER

Services available for residents of WV

24 Hours a Day, 365 Days a Year

The Lighthouse seeks to provide protection, intervention and support to victims of domestic violence. Through direct services and community education, the Lighthouse empowers victims of domestic violence, promotes equality in all relationships, and advocates for the fundamental right of every individual to a life free of intimidation and violence.

SERVICES
The Lighthouse is a safe location for victims of domestic violence and their children. While a resident at the Lighthouse, assistance will be given to help the victim obtain and maintain self-sufficiency. All services are confidential.

To Receive Service
If you are in need of domestic violence services, please call the crisis hotline. Before admission into the shelter, residents will be given a pre-admission questionnaire. You should bring any important paperwork, if possible, including: any court documents, medical insurance cards, birth certificates, social security cards, etc.

to residents of Brooke and Hancock County on issues resulting from domestic
violence.
